To provide a jumping off point from here on out, let's establish the status quo of my life as it exists right now. Some of this information may be new to you, other portions of it are old news. I apologize in advance for any belabouring of the obvious that may take place this post.
I'll start with that which is most important: Caro and I are engaged.
To be married.
To each other.
I know this has not exactly been a whirlwind romance; we've been very happily living together for some time now. The joy inherent in the concept of marriage has been tempered on both of our parts with the
fear of spending an exorbitant amount of money on hosting an event that
our families and friends can enjoy
together.
So we may just elope.
All that being said, we're very excited and hope you are too.
Caro and I are still in
Houston Choral Showcase together. I'm still Men's Section Leader (equipment manager), and Caro has taken on the responsibility of Public Relations (telling me about typos on the website). The choir has kept us extremely busy, but I enjoy singing and she also enjoys being on stage.
Our big spring show is June 9th at the St. John's School's Lowe Theater. All are invited and encouraged to purchase tickets and attend.
Caro is still a member of Third Coast Comedy, the improv troupe run by Caro's dad, Dave. She's been part of the group since it's inception and is happiest when she's on stage looking for the humour in being thrown into improbable-yet-hilarious situations.
The group's main problem at this point is ticket sales. With no advertising budget, Dave is finding it difficult to put butts in seats, which really is too bad. If you live in Houston, checkout
www.thirdcoastcomedy.com and come to a show!
I know there's at least one former EverQuest addict out there, so you'll understand where I'm coming from when I say that Caro and I have become
World of Warcraft addicts. She received the game as a gift from a fellow addict back in August. Since then, we spend ~15 hours a week in-game. (Sad but true.) Both our main characters reached vaunted level 70 within minutes of each other last weekend, which made us really happy. My main is a Tauren hunter named
Huataurga and Caro's is a Tauren shaman named
Lleyla. We have several friends who play as well, but only two of them are on our server playing with us. This makes us sad, but I'm sure at least one of you will suggest a course of action in the comments.
Continuing my streak of working for companies that have long since disappeared to one extent or another, the
company I'm currently contracted out to work for is on the auction block. More accurately, the Exploration and Production arm of the company is up for sale. This is no secret,
as it has been for sale for some time now. In fact, our offshore division
has already been sold to Italian company ENI. The onshore division I work for is still in limbo. Contractors like me don't qualify for severance or anything like that, so the only thing really keeping me here at this point are my coworkers and the really nice paycheck I've been getting. Mostly the paycheck.
So, that's the gist of our lives right now. We have choir rehearsal tonite, and I need to get my car out of the shop tomorrow. More on that later...
